More to come soon!

happy valentine's day!

Happy Valentine's Day, one and all! Well I guess officially it is five minutes until Valentine's Day as I write this, but whatever.

One of my friends calls it S.A.D (Single's Awareness Day). I'm sure many other people also call it this. WELL NO WORRIES FRIENDS! Because I have some stuff to cheer you! (or maybe make you weep because nothing will make you feel better except for chocolate and sex but mostly chocolate or maybe vodka).

First of all, since this is indeed the holiday of luuurve, I would like to share my favorite lovey dovey song.

I LOVE Owl City. I was first attracted to them because of their name (duh), but I also love their music a lot. It's exactly what I like - a little electronica, a little guitar, nice vocals, and lyrics about the ocean, lights, birds, the sky...basically everything I love. Haters gonna hate. Anyways, love this song.

Here are some valentines that are especially appealing to me and that I would love to get.

(all of these ones KILL ME hahahahahaha)

Let me let you in on a little secret: I actually hoard valentines and pictures that could be valentines because so many of them are hilarious/adorable. So when I finally actually DO have a valentine (you know, like a real boy one), then he will be bombarded with so many fucking awesome valentines he won't even know what hit him.

My valentine is my dog this year, which is good because he's pretty into cuddling and watching chick flicks and also he won't eat all the delicious treats I plan on getting for myself (because otherwise he'll be poisoned).

It's probably a good thing that I don't actually have a valentine (besides all my biffles who I always send valentines, don't even worry), because I would probably end up like this.

So I guess what I'm saying is that LOVE IS COOL and even though I don't have somebody I am still happy because I still have love in my life. Love for all my franz, my biffles, my pets, my family, nature, creatures, the birds, the trees, the stars, vodka, etc. I have a six-pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade in the back of my car that I forgot I bought this weekend, so you can BET YOUR ASS that I'll be consuming most or all of those! And probably eating cookie dough while cuddling with my dog (the aforementioned valentine). Even though I wish he loved me back, I know I'll be okay.

And if you are just completely not feeling the "spirit" of Valentine's Day and want to rip apart happy couples, here you go.

weekend update with otter

I watched last night's SNL. SO FUNNY. I haven't laughed that hard at an SNL episode in a long time.

Favorite sketch of the episode.

Friday night I was feeling a little melancholy, which is really weird because I was so so happy the entire day until I got home. Then a weird loneliness sort of sunk in and I felt inexplicably sad and sort of homesick (weirdly enough), which persisted throughout the weekend. I could maybe pinpoint a source, but mostly I was just pissed off that I was feeling that way. I'm supposed to be HAPPY. Friday I spent drawing and watching Portlandia, which did cheer my up. I drew out a comic of an intricate dream I had just a couple of days ago. I'll post the whole thing once I gain access to a scanner, but for now here is a preview.

This weekend has been a good one, though there were a couple of cancelled plans on my part :( I was going to go hiking (to Antelope Island!) but that fell through because I had previously planned to attend my cousin's birthday party. I did end up having a couple of pretty great adventures from that. I think it warrants its own post though, so tomorrow I'll post all the pictures and tell the tales. One involves getting stuck in a children's roller coaster. I also sacrificed all my quarters for the happiness of two little boys.

Maybe it was worth it though.

After the birthday party (which was hell on earth), I went over to Raphael's house for dinner and a THING-A-THON!

This was the best scene of all time, I was dying with laughter.

This is my verdict. '80s Thing: THE BEST. 2011 Thing: So. Boring. The only thing I was interested in was seeing the two-person morph you see burnt in the snow in the '80s version, but I was pissed because it felt like a remake of the '80s version, just stupid. Plus they had to shove in an epilogue of sorts DURING the credits to make it merge into the '80s movie. It was lame. Puppetry will always trump CGI, in my opinion. The '80s Thing was AWESOME though, Kurt Russel's hair, moments that made me scream, and hilarious Thing morphs are all highpoints of this movie. ALSO the amazing defibrillator scene, as shown above. When we first started watching the movie, I kept asking what The Thing was. And no one could tell me. They could only explain it as, "Well...it's a thing". After watching the movie I completely understand, though it took awhile for me to understand its biology in any capacity. Prior to The Thing there were a lot of whisky 7-ups ingested, along with a delicious spaghetti dinner. Then we interspersed our Thing-a-Thon with new episodes of Phineas and Ferb. I would say our epic Thing-a-Thon night was most DEFINITELY a success, even though the 2011 movie was sort of a disappointment.

Basically what I've learned is that if I EVER want to go to Antarctica for field research, I'm going to need both a cavity and a flamethrower.

It snow/rained today. I went over to Natal's house and took some pictures of ducks before we commenced hanging out, eating oreos and milk and watching SNL and then drawing pictures of things that we love.

My page 'o things I love.

Natal's page 'o things she loves.

So this weekend hast been funneth. Not super looking forward to school tomorrow or this coming week (since it is VALENTINE'S DAY, ugh), but oh well. I'll try to look on the sunny side of life or whatever.

weekend weekend

I have gotten horribly behind on my February photography challenge. AKA one day behind and then I forgot to take a picture at 10 AM EXACTLY today but tomorrow is another day. Plus I'm not super into the stuff I'm taking pictures of, since I've been so busy and distracted that I just take a picture that will fit the description at the last minute. SO I won't worry about that right now.

A lot of Friday night was spent dancing to 80s pop with Maeby Baby. My family is pretty partyrific in that sometimes they decide to play really loud music over the I-Pod speakers in the living room and then dance. When I used to live in the laundry room over the summer, I once woke up at 8 AM on a Saturday morning to my father and mother dancing (aka stomping in the room above my head) to "On the Floor" by J-Lo. Friday night was one of these times, so even though I was feeling headachey and exhausted, I joined in with my dad's enthusiasm and picked out songs. I noticed that Maeby was excitedly bobbing up and down her perch, so I took her out and discovered that she loves to dance. She bobs her head in time to the beat of the music, scampers back and forth across her cage, does a weird "walk like an Egyptian" type of dance, and I'm trying to teach her to sway from side to side. Basically, I spent Friday night dancing with a bird. And it was awesome. Oh, also the next part of Friday night was spent watching Dances with Wolves, which I ADORED and squealed about for a good portion of the night. Well, not the sad parts obviously. Parts involving Cisco and Two-Socks, mostly.

This is the part we left off at, the buffalo hunt (well, actually after he kills the buffalo and saves that kid and he trades his hat for a knife but I digress). I can't wait to watch the rest, though I am scurred that someone I am attached to will get hurt and/or killed.

The rest of Friday night was spent painting Blue Fairy Wrens

Sorry for the poor quality, they were taken with my Iphone in the semi-darkness of my room. Saturday was spent sleeping in and then heading over to Clioh's house to watch SHERLOCK! SECOND SEASON! So last time she showed me a little bit of the first episode and there was a PREVIOUSLY ON SHERLOCK segment, which is when I realized that I had not seen the entirety of the third episode of Season One. So uh it was news to me that John was almost blown up by Moriarty. So this is a good time to tell you how much I fucking LOVE JIM MORIARTY! He is fucking NUTS and I love him. Hounds of Baskerville was my favorite episode MOST DEFINITELY, even though he wasn't in it at all. First episode was sort of stupid...stupid as all fuck actually. BUT oh welll. I still really enjoyed the season overall, even though...SO HEARTBREAKING. Ugh I will refrain from pouring feelings out about it now since it would be spoilery to peeps who haven't seen it and also I'm too tired to really go into it right now, but know that Moriarty is basically my life.

We made nachos for dinner and then watched a truly fucking weird show by Noel Fielding called Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy. Some of it is really legitimately funny and some of it is just...fucking weird as shit. Some of it is both! Some of it is on Youtube but I can't...I can't post a video here, it's too much. TOO MUCH I SAY. Also Youtube isn't really working very well so I can't embed the video I would have posted otherwise. So just imagine some weird shit in your head and multiply it by fifty. Slash look it up on youtube. After dinner, I headed out to meet up with Raphael while she ate and then we headed back to my place to watch Phineas and Ferb and WATERCOLOR! Where I ended up painting this.

A European Bee-eater! I had to go to bed "early" because I was also getting up "early" so by midnight I was in bed trying to get to sleep. Then I woke up at eight to clean the bathroom and head out to Natal's house by ten so that we could get some brunch at our favorite weird brunch place, Chabaar! Mmmmm such delicious breakfast sandwiches. After brunch, we watched Sucker Punch (which I love, even though it is totally female objectification etc. etc. it's still kickass and a really cool looking movie and Emily Browning is perfection) and I helped Natal get rid of some stuff (sort of). She also gave me a bunch of her movies and headbands, which was so awesome! So now I have a bunch of new chick flicks to watch and pretty hair things to wear. We then ended up making chocolate-covered Oreos for her co-workers at the school she works at.

The bad news about this weekend, ROSEANNE WAS TAKEN OFF OF INSTANT PLAY. I am seriously upset about this. I tweeted Netflix about it, you'd better believe it. UGH I'M SO SAD/MAD :( I love Roseanne. I was going to watch it for my theater class homework and when I discovered it was gone I was so, so sad. But at least I'm snuggled up in bed watching Bridget Jones'es Diary (given to me by Natal, yaaaay!). Also the Superbowl was today so that's cool I guess. I sort of watched the first half with my family and then tapered off and instead favored watching TV for my homework. Lots of delicious food though = SO GOOD.

I'm going to sleep now since there is a long day of...you know, MONDAY ahead of me. Nighty night.

Day 3

Hands

So much stuff happened today. I did a presentation on blue-footed booby siblicide, I did the big cleaning for bird care, I went to lab meeting, and then I came home and COLLAPSED. Now I'm watching Dances with Wolves with my family after a long hour and a half of dancing to 80s music with Maeby Baby. Good Friday night, in my opinion.
